The RXR/RAR receptor heterodimer can also recognize the DR1 site, as seen in 1DSZ. The C-terminal "T-box" of RXR interacts with RAR. The RAR/RXR can recognize different spacings, but on DR2 and DR5 the RXR is "upstream" instead of "downstream," so interactions are mediated by the C-terminal end of RAR.
