Spacing recognition in the RXR/RXR homodimer

The RXR receptor binds 9-cis retinoic acid. Its DBD homodimerizes or else heterodimerizes with several other nuclear hormone receptors in order to recognize binding sites with different spacing between AGGTCA half-sites (DR1-2-3-4-5). 1BY4 shows the structure of thr RXR/RXR homodimer binding direct repeats on the DR1 site. The C-terminal "T-box" clearly has a different conformation in the two different monomers: they are arranged head-to-tail rather than head-to-head like the GR. The free RXR has the T-box tucked up against the DBD.
