Comparison of 1LAT.pdb and 1R4R.pdb

This compares 1LAT.pdb and 1R4R.pdb, to explore the half-site specificity of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and the estrogen receptor. The P-box half-site specificity determinants in the GR have been substituted with the corresponding amino acids from the estrogen receptor. A GRE with a non-natural zero bp spacing between specific half-sites was used. The D-box dimerization interface has similarly been exchanged, and no dimer forms.

The non-cognate interaction is via a shell of water, presumably at significant entropy cost. The cognate interaction is direct.
