Other Proteins
The proteins of the 50S subunit serve to stabilize tertiary rRNA structure. The structures of the following proteins, were reported by Ban et al. (2000), but have not yet been isolated en solo. Coupled with the previously isolated proteins, in all 28 of the 34 proteins contained within the large 50S ribosomal subunit have been structurally identified for further study.
L3 is 338 residues long and has a molecular weight of 37285 D. It interacts with domains II,IV, V, and VI of 23S rRNA and proteins L14 and L24.
L5 is 176 residues long and and has molecular weight of 19380 D. It is an 5S rRNA binding protein and interacts with domain V of 23S rRNA. It also contacts protein S13 in a 50S-30S bridge.
L13 is 145 residues long and has a molecular weight of 16212 D. It interacts with domains II, V, and VI of 23S rRNA and proteins L3 and L6.
L15 is 164 residues long and has a molecular weight of 17826 D It interacts with domains I, II, and V of 23S rRNA and proteins L18 and L32.
L18 is 186 residues long and has a molecular weight of 20467 D. It is a 5S rRNA binding protein and interacts domains II and V of 23S rRNA and proteins L5 and L21.
L19 is 148 residues long and has a molecular weight of 16580 D. It interacts with domains II, III, IV, and VI of 23S rRNA.
L21 is 95 residues long and has a molecular weight of 10399 D. It interacts with 5S rRNA, domains III and V of 23S rRNA, and protein L18.
L23 is 84 residues long and has a molecular weight of 9453 D. It interacts with domains I and III of 23S rRNA and with proteins L29 and L39.
L24 is 119 residues long and has a molecular weight of 13500 D. It interacts with domain I of 23S rRNA and protein L4.
L29 is 70 residues long and has a molecular weight of 7730 D. It interacts with domain I of 23S rRNA and with protein L23.
L31 is 91 residues long and has a molecular weight of 10218 D. It interacts with domains III, IV, and VI of 23S rRNA.
L37E is 56 residues long and has molecular weight of 6165 D. It interacts with domains I, II, III, and IV of 23S rRNA and protein L4.
L39E is 49 residues long and has a molecular weight of 5958 D. It interacts with domains I, and IIIof 23S rRNA and with protein L39.
L44E is 92 residues and has a molecular weight of 10774 D. It interacts with domains I, IV, and VI of 23S rRNA and with protein L15.
