L14

The L14 is involved in binding between two separate regions of 23S, one of which is involved in peptidyl transferase activity and the other of which is located in the GTP-binding region of the ribosome. Thus, this protein is projected to stabilize the central region of the large subunit and promote correct folding during development. In addition, binding with L19 can be discerned due to a hydrophobic region on the L14 surface. The structure provided was created from Bacillus stearothermophilus using isomorphous displacement and MAD dispersion methods. (Davies et al. 1996)
