Background papers for Rice and Steitz Discussion

The primary paper (Rice, P. A. and Steitz, T. A. (1994). "Model for a DNA-mediated synaptic complex suggested by crystal packing of [[gamma]]d resolvase subunits." EMBO J. 13, 1514-1524), to be discussed 2/7/96, concerns the development of a model for a recombinase complex involving altogether about 230 bp of DNA and 12 protein molecules (~20 kd). We are interested in the sources of the model, in comparisons with some later work, and in the biochemical implications of the structure.
