Molecular visualization of a real protein alpha helix binding DNA


This web page uses the open-source Java Applet program Jmol. You will need a relatively recent Java Virtual Machine to use it and you will also have to jump through a lot of hoops to get your Mac to be willing to run a Java applet. Google for "run Java on <your platform here>"

This shows the same alpha helix that we saw idealized before, now as part of a left-handed coiled coil that binds DNA, in the GCN4-DNA cocrystal structure 1YSA.
